Am I a Sex Addict?

The first step in determining if you would benefit from sex addiction counseling is to be honest with yourself:  Is your sexual behavior damaging any areas of your life?  Is your relationship or career suffering from your sexual behavior?  Are your emotional, physical and spiritual well-being in an unhealthy state?

The two main signs of a sex addiction are loss of control and negative consequences as a result of your behavior. Simply put, if you are incapable to controlling your sexual behavior and you’re experiencing destructive consequences due to your behavior you likely have a problem and should seek professional help.

Working to clear up sexual problem areas will provide great benefits; in fact, gaining control of  problematic sexual behaviors can be a life changing experience.

Here are some of the behaviors that someone who needs sex addiction counseling may exhibit:
  • Compulsive and excessive masturbation (self-pleasuring)
  • Multiple affairs (adulterous affairs)
  •  Numerous or anonymous sexual partners
  • Repeated one-night stands
  • Regular use of pornography (Cyberporn)
  • Unsafe sex
  • Cyber sexual Affairs, sexting(sending sexually explicit messages)
  • Prostitution or use of prostitutes
  • Exhibitionism
  • Obsessive dating through personal ads for sex
  • Voyeurism (watching others) and/or stalking
